BLUF

The main point of an intelligence product should be at the very beginning of any analysis. Remember, a reader with limited time may only read the first few sentences—or maybe only the title—so if you want to convey your message, it’s essential to put it upfront. Crafting a clear, concise, and analytical BLUF that incorporates appropriate estimative language and confidence levels requires practice. This training will equip analysts with the skills to effectively develop a BLUF. This includes revising old products to pinpoint, enhance, and reshape the BLUF to better highlight and focus the analysis of the product and appeal to the right target audience. Using published products from both the Intelligence Community and your respective organization, analysts will learn to write effective BLUFs on complex, real-world topics.
